CHARACTER INFO

Character Name: Dick Grayson / Robin
Character Canon: Young Justice (DC Animated)

History: Only the parts where he's Robin matters but should still contain enough to suffice.

AU History:

Richard "Dick" Grayson was the youngest member of a famous family acrobatic group known as the 'Flying Graysons'. Within the group was his parents, aunt, and uncle. They performed frequently in the Entertainment District of Union with their near impossible stunts; their most famous one of all was their trapeze act performed without a net underneath. Dick was trained from a very young age to become an acrobat like his parents and just like them he was a natural. His Fletchling, named Robin, was a gift that was given to him from his mother on his seventh birthday.

A year later, when Dick had turned eight, tragedy struck. Dick heard something on-stage after the equipment had been set. However, when Dick went to go investigate the cause of the noise noticed him from above and disappeared. The only thing Dick could catch was that it was not human. Dick figured it was nothing and ignored it. Later that night the stage was set and his parents started their trapeze performance. While Dick was still too young to perform in the biggest, most dangerous, trapeze act, he still got the best seat in the house: the platform of the center pole.

However, when his family started the act something was wrong. With his growing analytic ability, Dick noticed that the ropes were about to snap. But before he could warn his family the ropes break and all of them plunged to the bottom. His parents and aunt died and his uncle - his then only remaining relative - was comatose. The tragedy was deemed an accident: faulty equipment. But Dick knew that it couldn't have been it. They always made sure the ropes and everything else was in the best condition before setting up the stage. Which meant that, whatever it was he saw, sabotaged the equipment which led to what he saw that night.

As his only reminding family member was comatose Dick had no choice but to go to an orphanage. That is, if he hadn't been lucky. One of the members of the audience, Bruce Wayne a council member and one of the Union's most noble, saw more than just potential in the boy. He also investigated the equipment with Dick and found out that there might have been a trainer named Zucco behind the Pokemon who sabotaged the equipment as the whole ordeal seemed a bit too organized. With sympathy and an offer to help he brought Dick home and, while not making him officially his son (as to not replace his real parents), made him his ward.

A few years pass. After an incident when he was nine in which Dick was caught recklessly searching for the perpetrator behind his family's death he started to train with the council member (who may or may not have a double-life). So with the help of his acrobatic skills Dick learned how to fight and defend. His guardian also noticed that Dick was 'Far from Ordinary' and had analyst abilities that allowed him to look like a genius at the University with some personal tutoring and schooling. He also messed around with any sort of technology he got his hands on, making him a near genius in working with whatever computer-like technology was available.

Once he was ready, or at least felt like he was ready and couldn't wait much longer, Dick went to join the Swords of the Savior. However, it's not Dick Grayson that joins. Instead he goes by the name of Robin an identity he and his guardian agreed on in order to keep him safe. Just in case that, whomever might have been behind the sabotage, could be looking to finish the job. He wears different clothing than when he is Dick and also sports some sort of eye wear (be it sunglasses or masks) in order to conceal his true identity. With Robin is a Zubat that was given by his guardian when he agreed (or gave in) to the decision to allow Robin to join.

From then on Dick starts his double life. Dick Grayson continues to be a genius mathlete at the University and is to take his guardian's spot on the council when he is older. Dick has a Fletchling, wears noble-like clothing, and slicks his hair back. Meanwhile Robin is the one who is now helping Union while also looking for the cause of his family's death with his trusty partner "Bat" the Zubat. His hair is more shaggy and he either wears more casual clothing with sunglasses or what he has for a 'Savior of the Sword' (likely tweaked in order to be able to easily move in it) complete with a mask.

Canon Personality:

Robin is an interesting mix between being your average 13-year-old and not being one. He's energetic, a bit immature, and doesn't quite listen sometimes when he's asked to do something. On the other hand he's skilled in what normal 13-year-old children wouldn't be (such as computers and martial arts), can easily assess a situation and come up with a plan on the spot and has been through a lot more your average kid his age would have been through.

He's charismatic. Most people who he meets that aren't his enemies like him. If they don't like him initially then through time it seems to grow on him. His energetic, lively nature is pretty influential and thus he's able to pick people up when they're feeling down. He's someone that you can depend on when you need help and unlike his mentor he won't risk everything for a mission. He still makes sure that his friends make it out safe and, as much as an extent as possible, civilians and anyone who is innocent as well.

However, as mentioned he's also immature. There are times when he make remarks or laugh at people when he shouldn't and sometimes doesn't respect his elders when he should. Sometimes he can be seen arguing with someone that doesn't agree with him. Through time his immaturity weens as he experiences more but he still has a tendency to be sarcastic or taunt his opponents when he shouldn't. And, just overall, he will act much like a thirteen-year-old will act give or take.

He also had a very bad habit of running off when he shouldn't or wasn't told to, often doing so and then reappearing where the enemy was or reappearing back where his teammates were. This bugged this teammates a lot but, luckily, he eventually toned it down a bit later on. But this also shows that there are times when he can seem impatient. When they need to get somewhere or he wants to do more than just sit around he can get a bit antsy.

Another thing to note about Robin is his play on the English language. He often likes to drop the prefix of a word (the 'over' in 'overwhelmed') and make a whole new word with a new meaning when he does to (just be 'whelmed'). He will also put new prefixes where the old prefix was and also make a word that doesn't exist from it (the infiltrators have been outfultrated).

Having trained since he was nine Robin was the most experienced one in the group. However, this also caused him to not be prepared to be a leader. He have the ability and potential to be a natural leader and shows it when the time is needed but he needed to learn the importance of teamwork first. Having worked with Batman for four years prior caused him to think that everyone ought to know what they should do without his spoken word. This also means that he knows when to get really serious and when there is room to be sarcastic.

By the time Robin started to learn how to be a leader he didn't want to be one anymore. Robin, at least, wanted to become like Batman. Be the Batman. However, after a simulation that caused the death of most of his comrades he learned that, unlike his mentor, he couldn't sacrifice everything for the mission. He values his comrades and others far too much to put them before a mission. After, when he had to become the leader for a mission he showed this that, while showing hesitation, allowed the mission to take a detour in order to help a mother and her son.

That said Robin is confident at what he does but he's also unsure about what he does all the same. Sometimes he questions himself and what he should and shouldn't do and realize that there is still a lot that he needs to learn. But after years of experience Robin still tries to maintain a level head even during the most critical of moments (such as when the cave was attacked and left only him and Artemis to take down what took down their super-powers friends). He doesn't let the fact that he is just human while many others that he knows aren't stop him from being the super hero he is.

Basically Robin is a charismatic, good-willed kid who is energetic and while can be mature for his act can also be a bit immature. He loves to joke around with his friends and can't help but sometimes joke and be sarcastic with enemies as well. But he's also seen and been through a lot. It's caused him to be both leader material and not want to be a leader, and know what to do in a situation. However, it doesn't stop him from not thinking before acting or (at least to begin with) think about the actions of his other teammates before his own. And while he's gotten better at it it was arguably at the hand of wanting a leadership role.

But hey, as mentioned before he's definitely someone you can depend on. He keeps his identity as Richard "Dick" Grayson a secret but that is because of Batman. Gotham City is a very dangerous place, after all. But Dick and Robin, as little we had seen, aren't as different to one another. While Dick is a smart, sarcastic, charismatic mathlete brat Robin is a smart, sarcastic, charismatic superhero who knows what he's doing.

Most of the time.

AU Deviation:

The biggest difference is the fact that Robin has yet to get justice for his parent's death. This doesn't stop him from being what his core personality entails (a snarky little brat who seems to get along with pretty much anyone ever, so on and so forth, but it does cause him to have a less of a handle on his emotions. And even as Dick the death of the Flying Graysons is not something he wants to talk about. Ever. It also causes him to sometimes be even more reckless in making sure that perpetrators don't get away from their crime. Because of the fact that, while it was a Pokemon that sabotaged the equipment, there is a high chance someone was behind it until Robin can understand what a Pokemon's role is in someone's life there is a larger barrier between those who he will talk to and those whom he will actually form a bond with.

That said Robin for the most part is the same. While he is a little more bitter about the fact that the 'culprit' got away he's not nearly as bitter as he could be thanks to the support he's gotten from his guardian and Pokemon. There will be heavier differences between Robin and Dick in order to throw people off because everyone he knows is from Union and are likely to see both sides of him more often. Dick is more down to earth and more like a high social class smart kid while Robin is the one with all the snark and recklessness (like running off without telling anyone. Yep totally a thing). You will never see Dick with any Pokemon that Robin has a vice versa. Also a dork because who in Union puts on a mask with the Sword uniform? This guy.

Canon Abilities:

Dick was a member of a famous, most talented, acrobat group known as the 'Flying Graysons'. He is the only one (used to be three before his parents died) who can do a triple-somersault. That said he's stupidly flexible, has high mobility, can do near impossible stunts, and so forth. He's also a bit stronger than your average 13-year-old (being able to punch into a wall with no injuries) due to the fact that he first trained to become an acrobat and then trained under the supervision of Batman to become Robin at the age of nine.

With that in mind he's also a master martial artist to compliment his acrobatic skills. He can also run faster than the average boy his age and he has top endurance as well. But, being human, his level of strength isn't that strong (especially compared to say Superboy) and so relies more on his acrobatic/evasive skills to take down enemies. That said Robin is very stealthy and can pretty much blend into the shadows in order to sneak up on enemies. He's also a good marksman being able to through things such as his batarangs nearly dead on every time.

That aside he's smart and skilled at math but the most important thing is that he is really skilled at computers. He's able to easily hack into systems and pull up their blueprints, shut down security sensors + motion sensors among other things you can do with a computer. He's also a really good detective like Batman as well as a good technician being able to easily come up with plans and tactics quickly.

tl;dr Robin is called 'Boy Wonder' for a reason because he can do all this stuff at the age of thirteen.

SAMPLES

First-Person:
Test Drive

Third-Person:

-What would you say the role of Pokémon is in your life?
In my life? Companions. To be there for me when no one else is.

-To what lengths would you go to rescue your allies if they were lost in the wilderness?
As far as I must take. They're my allies and I'm not going to leave without 'em.

-What aspects and traits do you respect most in your individual fellow man?
I respect those who respect their Pokemon. Not treat them like they're simply tools to be used for their own benefit.

-What do you look for in the Pokémon with whom you bond?
Always looking for more that I can trust and count on. Not only that but to just be there for me no matter what. A friend, basically.

-What do you think your Pokémon respect most about you?
Uh ... well let's see. Honestly? I think they just respect me for being who I am. For pushing forward even with the going gets tough. It's hard work and I can see it in their eyes that they respect me for it.

-A human has attacked a wild Pokémon who retaliates in defense. How do you respond and whom do you defend?
I'd respond by subduing the human to the best of my abilities. If the Pokemon is simply attacking for self-defense then it is the human who is at fault. I'd never side with someone who seems to have bad intentions in mind.

-You are alone and bereft of your Pokémon allies, upon what strengths do you rely on to see yourself safely home?
The skills I've been taught. I may not be an enlightened but I am far from defenseless.

-What would you say is your greatest duty, and why?
To help others in anyway I can. I don't think I'm necessarily entitled to do it but I do it because I want to and I don't think there's anything greater than going something because you want to do it. Not because you have to.

-What strengths make you most qualified for your role within Union?
I could say my ability to defend myself but that's not really what I feel like is my most qualified strength. I know what it's like to not get the justice you, or someone close to you, deserve and the strength to go out and get justice for those who can't do it themselves I feel is more powerful than what I can do in combat.

-In your eyes, what is absolutely unforgivable.
Using Pokemon, or anything for the matter, to get what you want with no respect to the people around you. For no other gains other than their own.
